Once upon a time…
We got married in York Beach almost 3 decades ago. It was a simple event: the ceremony at Our Lady Star of Sea Church, followed by a perfectly catered reception in Grandma’s backyard.
A York Beach Love Story.
Ours is just a tiny piece of THE York Beach Love Story. THE story spans decades, even centuries. 10, 55, 99, 127 years ago, someone said I DO to the love of their life in this town – with the sights, sounds and scents of the Atlantic nearby.
Did you?
Since then, we’ve spent a large part of our summers at Short Sands, Long Sands, and Grandma’s Backyard. Through the years we’ve seen, and met, so many people planning weddings, getting married, and celebrating anniversaries.
A few years ago, as our 25th anniversary approached, I started thinking about the dozens of weddings we’ve witnessed while sitting on Short Sands on Saturday afternoons; bridal parties riding by on trolleys; couples braving the sand, wind and rocks for that perfect photo; entire extended families enjoying the morning-after brunch together.
Was it you?
I remember a sunset walk on Long Sands a few years back. A couple approached us and asked us to take their picture by the rocks near Sun & Surf Restaurant. They explained that they had been engaged in that same spot a few years earlier and that they come back every year to take a picture. THIS was actually the first time I thought to myself – there are so many love stories that started right here…
I want to link these stories, these couples, these families. That’s what York Beach Love Story is all about.
